Universal Locking Screws

Universal locking screws thread into the head of a locking plate and turn plate and screws into one fixed-angle unit. This range serves the locking plate systems across the trauma portfolio — from one-point-five-millimetre screws for hand plates to four-point-five-millimetre screws for heavy periarticular plates — as genuine original Zimmer Biomet components stocked by BoneCraft and supplied through independent distribution.

  • Threaded head locks directly into the plate, building a fixed-angle construct
  • Six diameters from one point five to four point five millimetres
  • Lengths from eight to ninety millimetres across the families
  • One screw family serving multiple locking plate systems
  • Over two hundred fifty catalog numbers in the size matrix

Universal Locking Screws — The Fixed-Angle Interface Between Plate and Bone

A locking screw does two jobs at once. Its shaft grips the bone like any screw, while its threaded head engages the plate hole and locks there. The result is a construct in which screw and plate move as one: angle held, load shared across all screws at once, and no dependence on friction between plate and bone.

That is what makes locking fixation the default in osteopenic metaphyseal bone, and it is why plate systems define their screws as carefully as their plates. The universal locking range follows the plate families it serves — small diameters for hand and foot plates, large diameters for the periarticular plates of the wrist, elbow, knee and ankle. Diameter, length and configuration remain selections of the operating surgeon.

Locking screws are driven through the system drill guide so the head thread engages the plate hole squarely. Once seated, the screw no longer relies on plate-to-bone compression — its angle is fixed by the plate itself, which is the mechanical point of the design.
