Radial Styloid Plate

The radial styloid plate is a small dedicated buttress plate for the styloid process of the distal radius. It serves isolated styloid fractures — the classic chauffeur fracture — and complex distal radius patterns in which the styloid fragment is fixed as its own fragment-specific step. This plate is a genuine original implant from the Zimmer Biomet ZPLP distal radius range, stocked by BoneCraft and supplied through independent distribution.

  • Shaped specifically for the radial styloid process
  • Buttresses the styloid fragment against ligament-driven displacement
  • Low-profile design for the narrow radial border of the wrist
  • Works alone in isolated fractures or alongside other plates in complex patterns
  • Four catalog numbers in two code pairs, original factory stock

Radial Styloid Plate — Buttressing the Radial Border of the Wrist

The radial styloid is a small fragment with an outsized role. The major radiocarpal ligaments attach there, so a styloid fracture is a ligament injury as much as a bone injury: left unsupported, the fragment migrates under ligament tension and takes carpal stability with it. Isolated styloid fractures — historically the chauffeur fracture — and the styloid component of complex articular patterns share this mechanics.

A dedicated styloid plate lets the surgeon buttress the fragment directly on the radial border, in isolation or as part of a fragment-specific construct in which each column of the wrist gets its own fixation. The small plate profile suits the narrow anatomy of the radial side. Whether the styloid needs its own plate, and how it combines with other implants, is decided by the operating surgeon.

Product Details

The plate is seated on the radial border of the styloid process and fixed with small-fragment screws, holding the fragment down against the pull of the radiocarpal ligaments. In complex patterns it combines with volar or dorsal implants as the styloid element of a fragment-specific construct.
