An anatomic plate removes one variable from fibular fixation: shaping. Because the head is preformed to the lateral malleolus and the shaft to the fibular bow, the plate seats flush against the bone as soon as the fracture is reduced, and the distal locking screws land in the malleolar fragment at the angles designed into the plate. Less bending in theatre also means the locking threads are not distorted by repeated contouring, so the screws engage the plate cleanly.

Product Details

At surgery the plate is laid on the lateral surface of the fibula with the head over the malleolus. The distal locking screws are placed first to establish the fixed-angle frame in the distal fragment; the shaft screws follow and complete the construct. In the guided variants the shaft screws are placed percutaneously through the guide after the plate has been advanced along the bone. K-wire holes allow the plate to be tacked in position while the reduction is checked. Reduction, screw order and technique are decided by the operating surgeon.
