At the lateral malleolus the implant lies directly under the skin, so plate bulk decides how often hardware is felt afterwards. Because the screws thread into the plate, the construct does not depend on purchase in weak metaphyseal bone. Reduction, screw sequence and plate length are decided by the operating surgeon.
